Prof. Gürlek's Surgical Approach

Deep plane facelift surgery, as performed by surgeons like Prof. Gürlek, represents an evolution in facial rejuvenation techniques that addresses the fundamental architecture of facial aging. The procedure targets the SMAS layer — a fibrous sheet of tissue beneath the skin that connects facial muscles — allowing for comprehensive repositioning of descended facial structures rather than simply tightening surface skin. Sub-SMAS dissection, the hallmark of this technique, involves carefully releasing ligamentous attachments that tether facial tissues to underlying bone, particularly in the midface region where age-related volume loss is most pronounced. This anatomical approach enables surgeons to reposition the entire facial soft tissue unit as one cohesive layer, maintaining natural facial expressions while achieving significant lifting effects. The deep plane technique particularly excels at addressing the nasolabial folds (lines from nose to mouth) and marionette lines (from mouth corners downward) by releasing the zygomatic ligaments and repositioning the malar fat pad to its youthful position. Unlike traditional facelift methods that may create tension on the skin, deep plane surgery redistributes tension to the stronger SMAS layer, resulting in more natural-appearing outcomes with reduced risk of the 'windswept' appearance sometimes associated with older techniques. Surgeons employing this method must possess intimate knowledge of facial nerve anatomy, as the dissection plane runs close to important motor branches that control facial expression. The technique also allows for harmonious integration with complementary procedures such as fat grafting to restore volume or neck contouring to address platysma bands (vertical neck cords). Recovery considerations specific to deep plane surgery include initial swelling that may be more pronounced than superficial techniques but ultimately resolves to reveal comprehensive facial rejuvenation. The longevity of results from deep plane facelift typically exceeds that of traditional methods, with many patients experiencing benefits lasting 10-15 years due to the structural nature of the correction.

Prof. Ali Gürlek is listed as a member of the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (TSPRAS), a professional organization that represents board-certified plastic surgeons throughout Turkey. TSPRAS membership typically requires completion of accredited plastic surgery residency training and adherence to continuing medical education standards, though specific verification of individual credentials should be confirmed directly with the society. The designation of 'Professor' in the Turkish medical system generally indicates an advanced academic position within a university hospital or medical faculty, suggesting involvement in both clinical practice and medical education. While comprehensive details about Prof. Gürlek's medical school, residency training location, and years of practice would require direct verification, his established presence in Istanbul's competitive aesthetic surgery market provides context for his experience level. Deep plane facelift surgery demands specialized training beyond general plastic surgery residency, often acquired through focused fellowship training or extensive mentorship with experienced practitioners of the technique. Surgeons performing this advanced procedure typically demonstrate proficiency in facial anatomy, particularly the complex relationship between the SMAS layer, facial nerve branches, and ligamentous structures that must be navigated during surgery. Professional society membership like TSPRAS often requires surgeons to maintain ethical standards and participate in peer review processes, providing an additional layer of professional oversight beyond basic medical licensing.

Patient Reviews & Reputation

According to 143 Google reviews, Prof. Ali Gürlek maintains a solid 4.

According to 143 Google reviews, Prof. Ali Gürlek maintains a solid 4.5 out of 5 star rating, placing him slightly below Istanbul's average of 4.7 stars for deep plane facelift surgeons but still within the range of well-regarded practitioners. The available cached reviews reveal important insights about the patient experience, including procedures beyond facial surgery such as breast augmentation, indicating a diverse practice scope. One particularly detailed review from March 2026 describes outcomes 2.5 years after a comprehensive facial procedure including lower face, midface, temporal, and neck lift combined with lip lift — this long-term perspective provides valuable insight into result durability. The linguistic diversity of reviews, with content in both American English and general English, suggests Prof. Gürlek serves an international clientele despite the city data indicating zero surgeons officially accepting international patients. Review themes include references to other doctors providing referrals, suggesting professional recognition within Istanbul's medical community. The presence of both highly satisfied patients (5-star ratings) and a more critical review (3 stars) provides a balanced perspective that helps prospective patients form realistic expectations. Time gaps between reviews spanning several years indicate an established practice history rather than a recent market entry. The mention of combination treatments like Scarlet and Mesotherapy in one review suggests the practice offers non-surgical aesthetic options alongside surgical procedures, potentially appealing to patients seeking comprehensive facial rejuvenation strategies.

Within Istanbul's highly competitive landscape of 149 deep plane facelift surgeons, Prof. Gürlek occupies a position among the more established practitioners based on available metrics. His Google rating of 4.5 stars from 143 reviews, while 0.2 points below the city average of 4.7, still places him in the upper percentile when considering the substantial review volume — many surgeons may have higher ratings based on fewer patient experiences. The professor's review count significantly exceeds what might be expected from newer practitioners, suggesting a practice history that likely surpasses the city's average experience level of 13 years. Istanbul's price range for deep plane facelift procedures spans $8,000 to $15,000, creating a competitive environment where surgeons must differentiate through quality, technique, and patient service rather than price alone. Prof. Gürlek's active Instagram presence (@prof.dr.aligurlek) aligns with the digital engagement expected in a market where all 149 surgeons maintain social media profiles. The apparent contradiction between city data showing zero surgeons accepting international patients and the multilingual reviews for Prof. Gürlek suggests either recent policy changes or differences in how international patient acceptance is reported. His TSPRAS membership provides professional credibility in a market where patients have numerous qualified options. The sustained positive feedback across multiple years indicates consistent surgical outcomes that help maintain competitiveness in Istanbul's saturated aesthetic surgery market.

Deep plane facelift procedures in Istanbul range from $8,000 to $15,000 according to current market data, positioning the city as a value-oriented destination compared to Western markets where similar procedures often exceed $25,000. This pricing reflects Turkey's favorable position in purchasing power parity (PPP) economics, where highly skilled medical professionals command lower fees relative to their counterparts in Europe or North America while maintaining comparable quality standards. The cost variation within Istanbul's range typically correlates with several factors: surgeon experience and reputation, facility accreditation level, inclusion of complementary procedures, and the comprehensiveness of perioperative care. Higher-priced options often include premium hospital facilities with JCI accreditation, dedicated patient coordinators, and extended post-operative monitoring. Mid-range pricing might utilize excellent surgical facilities with standard amenities, while lower-priced options may operate in smaller private clinics. Additional cost considerations include anesthesia fees (typically included in Turkish quotes but itemized separately in many countries), post-operative medications, compression garments, and follow-up appointments. International patients should factor in accommodation costs ranging from $50-200 per night depending on proximity to medical facilities and comfort preferences. The total value proposition extends beyond pure surgical fees to encompass the quality of nursing care, accessibility of the surgeon during recovery, and the comprehensiveness of pre-operative planning. Currency fluctuations between the Turkish lira and foreign currencies can significantly impact final costs for international patients, making timing an important consideration in treatment planning.

Istanbul stands as a unique crossroads between Europe and Asia, offering international patients seeking deep plane facelift surgery a compelling combination of advanced medical facilities and rich cultural experiences. The city's emergence as a medical tourism destination reflects its investment in modern healthcare infrastructure, with many private hospitals achieving Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation and employing multilingual staff accustomed to international patient needs. Travel logistics to Istanbul are straightforward, with two international airports serving direct flights from major cities worldwide — Istanbul Airport (IST) on the European side and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) on the Asian side provide convenient access to different areas of this sprawling metropolis. Most aesthetic surgery clinics cluster in modern districts like Şişli, Beşiktaş, and Kadıköy, where patients find numerous accommodation options ranging from boutique hotels to extended-stay apartments suitable for recovery periods. The city's efficient public transportation system, including metro, tram, and ferry services, facilitates movement between appointments, though many clinics offer transportation services for surgical patients. Istanbul's Mediterranean climate means mild winters and warm summers, with spring (April-May) and autumn (September-November) offering the most comfortable conditions for recovery. Cultural considerations include the predominantly Muslim character of the city, though medical districts maintain a cosmopolitan atmosphere where international patients feel welcome. The favorable exchange rate between the Turkish lira and major currencies enhances the value proposition for medical tourists, with total costs including surgery, accommodation, and travel often totaling less than surgery alone in Western countries. Patients typically plan 10-14 day stays to accommodate pre-operative consultations, surgery, and initial recovery monitoring before flying home. The city's well-regarded hospitality extends to medical settings, where patient care often includes personal attention that exceeds expectations from more clinical environments. Between appointments, recovering patients can enjoy Istanbul's UNESCO World Heritage sites, vibrant bazaars, and exceptional cuisine, though strenuous sightseeing should wait until after initial healing.

Recovery Expectations

Deep plane facelift recovery follows a predictable timeline that Prof. Gürlek's patients should anticipate when planning their procedure and post-operative care.

Deep plane facelift recovery follows a predictable timeline that Prof. Gürlek's patients should anticipate when planning their procedure and post-operative care. The first 48-72 hours typically involve the most significant swelling and discomfort, managed through prescribed pain medications and cold compress application to minimize bruising around the eyes and jawline. Surgical drains, if placed, are usually removed within 1-3 days, while sutures along the hairline and around the ears remain for 7-10 days depending on healing progression. Week two marks a transition point where most patients feel comfortable appearing in public with concealer makeup, though residual swelling may persist, particularly in the morning hours. Social activities can generally resume after two weeks, though patients should avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and activities that significantly elevate blood pressure for at least three to four weeks post-surgery. The deep plane technique's advantage becomes apparent during recovery — because tension is placed on the strong SMAS layer rather than surface skin, patients often experience less prolonged swelling compared to traditional facelift methods. Numbness in the facial skin, particularly around the ears, gradually resolves over 3-6 months as nerve endings regenerate. Final results emerge progressively, with 80% of swelling resolved by six weeks and complete settling of tissues achieved by six months. Scar maturation continues for up to one year, though incisions hidden within natural creases and hairlines typically become imperceptible much sooner. Patients traveling from abroad should plan to remain in Istanbul for at least 10-14 days to ensure proper initial healing before long-distance travel.

International Patient Guide

International patients considering deep plane facelift surgery with Prof. Gürlek in Istanbul should prepare for specific logistical considerations that optimize their surgical journey.

International patients considering deep plane facelift surgery with Prof. Gürlek in Istanbul should prepare for specific logistical considerations that optimize their surgical journey. Turkish visa requirements vary by nationality — citizens of many countries can obtain an e-visa online within minutes, while others may enter visa-free for medical stays up to 90 days. Language barriers are minimized in Istanbul's medical tourism sector, where clinic staff typically speak English, Arabic, Russian, and German alongside Turkish, facilitating clear communication throughout the treatment process. Pre-operative planning usually begins with virtual consultations via video call, allowing Prof. Gürlek to assess candidacy and discuss surgical goals before patients commit to travel. Essential medical records, including recent blood work and any cardiac clearances for patients over 50, should be translated and submitted in advance to streamline the in-person consultation. Accommodation near the surgical facility is recommended for the first few days post-operatively, with many clinics maintaining relationships with nearby hotels offering medical tourism packages. The typical stay for international deep plane facelift patients extends 12-14 days, allowing for pre-operative testing, surgery, initial recovery, suture removal, and final clearance for air travel. Banking considerations include informing credit card companies of international travel and understanding payment methods accepted by the clinic — many prefer wire transfers for large amounts. Post-operative follow-up via digital communication helps monitor healing progress after returning home, with most surgeons providing WhatsApp or email access for questions during recovery.

Consultation Guide

The consultation process with Prof. Gürlek begins with a comprehensive evaluation of facial anatomy, skin quality, and aesthetic goals to determine candidacy for deep plane facelift surgery.

The consultation process with Prof. Gürlek begins with a comprehensive evaluation of facial anatomy, skin quality, and aesthetic goals to determine candidacy for deep plane facelift surgery. Patients should arrive prepared with a complete medical history, including previous surgeries, current medications, allergies, and any history of poor wound healing or keloid formation. Key questions to ask during consultation include the specific technique planned for your anatomy, expected recovery timeline, potential risks specific to your case, and what complementary procedures might optimize results. Bringing photographs from younger years helps communicate aesthetic goals, while being prepared to discuss lifestyle factors like smoking (which must cease before surgery) ensures realistic planning. The physical examination will assess skin elasticity, degree of jowling, neck laxity, and facial volume loss to customize the surgical approach — some patients benefit from combined procedures addressing the brow, eyelids, or facial volume. Discussion of anesthesia options, facility accreditation, and post-operative care protocols helps establish comfort with the surgical plan. Financial considerations including total costs, payment schedules, and policies regarding revision surgery should be clearly understood. Computer imaging may demonstrate potential outcomes, though results vary based on individual healing. The consultation also establishes rapport with the surgical team and assesses the overall comfort level with the practice environment. March 2026 It has been 2.5 years since my lower, mid face, temporal and neck lift as well as lip lift. There are very visible scars and bunching under my chin. I was assured they would eventually resolve but have not even after 2.5 years. I have gotten in touch with the clinic and they have suggested scar revisions. I hope this will correct the very visible and upsetting scars that I have. I am looking forward to this much needed revision. July 2024 I had a full face, neck and temporal and neck lift with Dr. Riza and it has been almost 4 weeks. Most of the swelling has gone down and I things looks natural. I am so happy to have found him. He is charming, funny but professional and most of all he knows and is confident in what he is doing and you get the result that you are hoping for. His staff as well are all very personable and professional starting with Ayla, the office manager and his sister who runs a tight ship. The coordinators Sahar, Anahit and Denis are all a pleasure to deal with. They are very empathetic and ready to help you out with anything at all. A really good team. Best of all is his nurse assistant, Guleser, who was very r compassionate, caring and so gentle and a lovely person. I plan to go back to Istanbul and this particular team and surgeon. I would highly recommend Dr. Riza without hesitation.

I had a breast augmentation procedure a few weeks ago, and after doing a lot of research, I chose Dr. Oreroglu. I travelled from London, and the team at the clinic were incredibly helpful, supportive, and informative throughout the entire process. A special thank you to Sahar and Gülis for being there for me every step of the way. I’d also like to thank all the nurses, Dr. Oreroglu himself, and the rest of the staff who were always there to support me. The whole experience was amazing, and the hospital was beautiful and very clean. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone considering breast augmentation.
