The deep plane facelift is a technique that repositions deeper facial tissues rather than simply tightening the skin. Dr. Crantford applies this approach to address the natural signs of facial aging in the mid-face, jawline, and neck.

His practice serves patients across the Charleston region who are seeking facial rejuvenation. Many patients arrive having researched his surgical outcomes online before scheduling a consultation.

Dr. Crantford's clinical interest centers on producing results that appear natural rather than overly tightened. This philosophy aligns with the deep plane method, which restores facial volume and contour by lifting the underlying muscle and connective tissue.

Beyond the facelift, Dr. Clayton Crantford performs a broad range of facial procedures. These include blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), rhinoplasty, neck lift, and brow lift, giving patients access to comprehensive facial care in one practice.

His approach to recovery emphasizes structured aftercare. The CC Plastics practice uses an ERAS protocol (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery), a set of guidelines designed to support smoother healing and shorter downtime.

Dr. Crantford practices alongside a surgical team that includes Dr. Costa and a dedicated support staff. This team model allows patients to receive coordinated care throughout their surgical journey.

The practice also offers virtual consultations and travel support. These services make it easier for patients who live outside Charleston to begin the process before traveling for surgery.

Dr. Clayton Crantford's facial work reflects an understanding of how the SMAS layer (the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, a sheet of muscle and tissue beneath the skin) contributes to facial structure. Working within this layer is central to modern facelift surgery.

Charleston itself is a coastal Southern city known for its historic charm and refined hospitality. This setting appeals to patients who value a calm, gracious environment during their recovery period.

Patients considering rhytidectomy (the medical term for a facelift) often weigh the balance between visible improvement and natural appearance. Dr. Crantford's stated focus on natural, lasting results speaks directly to this concern.

His practice combines surgical care with a full med spa and skin clinic. This lets patients maintain their results over time with non-surgical treatments such as skin resurfacing, injectables, and microneedling.

Dr. Clayton Crantford remains active on Instagram at @ccplastics, where prospective patients can view his surgical philosophy and outcomes. Many patients cite this online presence as part of their research before choosing a surgeon.

For women in the 55-to-65 age range considering facial rejuvenation, Dr. Crantford represents an established Charleston option focused on the deep plane technique and thoughtful, individualized care.

Dr. Crantford is truly the BEST! I had admired his beautiful IG outcomes and felt his results matched my goals for a natural yet significant improvement in lower facial laxity, jowls, and deep marionette lines. I am thankful to be in excellent health however I felt like my face was betraying the youthfulness I still enjoy at 55. My results are excellent. Tim McAdams, his CRNA is equally fantastic and calming...best sleep of my life! The entire team was kind, professional, non-judgmental; simply exemplary. I traveled 1000 miles and would do it again in a heartbeat. Grateful for Dr. C's dedication to such rigorous work. His results reflect mastery of the complex technical and artistic skills necessary for successful outcomes in plastic surgery.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr. Clayton Crantford and his team. After searching far and wide, I was referred by a trusted friend—and it turned out to be the best recommendation I’ve ever received. Despite living all the way in Hawaii, I had a virtual consultation that was professional, informative, and genuinely caring. From our first interaction, Dr. Crantford and his staff took the time to answer all of my concerns and questions with empathy and clarity. Nearly six years ago, I underwent a full transformation: a tummy tuck, 360 liposuction, arms and chin lipo, breast lift with implants all while visiting Charleston. Now, six years out, I can honestly say this experience has been absolutely life changing. I wear swimsuits often here in Hawaii, and my scars are virtually invisible they healed beautifully. Dr. Crantford’s technical skill is matched by his compassionate bedside manner. The staff was warm, organized, and supportive throughout my journey—from consultation to recovery. I never felt rushed or dismissed, instead, I felt heard, respected, and empowered at every step. If you are looking for expertise, artistry, and truly extraordinary care, I highly recommend Dr. Crantford and his practice. I would fly back in a heartbeat for anything else. Thank you, Dr. Crantford and team—you gave me confidence that continues to brighten every day

In February 2024, I went to Dr. Crantford for an upper blepharoplasty procedure, and previously I have also gone to Dr. Crantford for a breast augmentation, buccal fat removal, botox/fillers, and laser skin treatments. After all of these experiences, and after various consults with other practices, I can say without hesitation: Dr. Crantford is the most knowledgeable, skilled, professional, and caring physician I've ever been to. His practice is exceptional and I trust him and his team implicitly. Not only am I thrilled with the results of all of my procedures, but I was blown away by how easy and seamless his team made the pre-op and post-op processes and how much communication/access I had to Dr. Crantford and his team before and after my procedures. One of the reasons I trust Dr. Crantford so much is that I have never felt like he or anyone at his practice has ever tried to up-sell me, and in fact, I have asked him about other plastic surgery procedures/skin treatments that I was interested in, and he has steered me away from them because he didn't think they would be beneficial for me. I think it is rare to find a practice that cares more about making sure their patients feel valued than about selling treatments, but Dr. Crantford is just that. I cannot recommend Dr. Crantford highly enough!

Dr. Crantford's Surgical Approach

Dr. Clayton Crantford approaches the deep plane facelift by working beneath the skin to reposition the deeper structural layers of the face.

Dr. Clayton Crantford approaches the deep plane facelift by working beneath the skin to reposition the deeper structural layers of the face. This technique differs from older methods that pulled only on the skin surface, which could create a tight or unnatural look.

The deep plane facelift focuses on the SMAS layer — the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, a continuous sheet of muscle and connective tissue that sits under the skin and supports facial shape. By releasing and lifting this layer, a surgeon can restore youthful position to the cheeks, jawline, and neck.
