He completed his medical education at Rush Medical College. This academic background supports a career built around the specialized study of facial anatomy and aesthetic surgery.
Dr. Somenek focuses his surgical practice on the deep plane facelift, a technique that repositions the deeper layers of facial tissue rather than simply tightening the skin. His areas of clinical interest also include mid-face and neck rejuvenation.
The deep plane facelift is a technique that works beneath the SMAS (the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, a layer of muscle and connective tissue in the face). By releasing and lifting this layer as a unit, the approach aims to restore natural contours without a pulled appearance.
Dr. Somenek's approach emphasizes results that respect the natural movement and expression of the face. His attention to mid-face and neck rejuvenation reflects a comprehensive view of facial aging rather than treatment of isolated areas.
Facial aging affects multiple layers of tissue at once — skin, fat, muscle, and the connections between them. Dr. Somenek's work addresses these layers together, an approach central to modern deep plane surgery.
His practice, Somenek + Pittman MD, offers a broad range of facial and cosmetic procedures. Within that practice, Dr. Somenek concentrates on facial surgery, including the deep plane facelift, revision facelift, mini-facelift, and neck lift.
Dr. Somenek has also been recognized within the aesthetic community through professional interviews and editorial work. He served as a guest editor for a wellness feature in a regional luxury publication, reflecting his standing among peers in the field.
Patients who consider the deep plane facelift often do so because they want longer-lasting rejuvenation than skin-only techniques provide. Dr. Somenek's focus on tissue repositioning aligns with this goal.
Recovery from a deep plane facelift is a gradual process, and Dr. Somenek's practice guides patients through each stage. Most swelling and bruising resolve within the first several weeks, while final results continue to refine over several months.
Washington DC serves as the home base for Dr. Somenek's surgical work. The city offers a well-established medical community and convenient access for patients across the region and beyond.
Dr. Somenek's practice combines surgical care with a broader menu of non-surgical and skincare services through an affiliated medspa. This allows patients to maintain their results with complementary treatments over time.
For women considering facial rejuvenation in their fifties and sixties, the deep plane facelift represents one of the more comprehensive surgical options available. Dr. Somenek's experience with this technique makes him a relevant option for patients researching surgeons in the Washington DC area.

What recent patients say
4.7 / 5 · 184 Google reviewsI recently had my very first cosmetic procedure with Dr. Pittman, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From day one, Dr. Pittman and his entire team have been nothing short of incredible. Dr. Pittman is not only exceptionally skilled, but also incredibly patient, detail-oriented, and genuinely cares about his patients. As someone who was new to this process, I really appreciated how thoroughly he answered all of my questions and made sure I felt confident and comfortable every step of the way. His team is just as amazing. The overall process was seamless thanks to Gillian. She was always available, responsive, and so helpful from my initial consultation all the way through the days leading up to surgery from scheduling to paperwork. The surgical staff were equally wonderful. They were so kind, reassuring, and made me feel completely at ease throughout the entire experience. Their warmth and attentiveness truly reinforced that I was in the best hands and made the right decision. On a side note, I genuinely enjoyed going into the office—it’s modern, beautiful, and very well maintained, which made the overall experience even more comfortable :) I felt supported, informed, and genuinely cared for at every stage. I would highly recommend Somenek + Pittman to anyone considering a procedure!!
I have gone to this practice for a couple surgeries and have always had a great experience. I recently had preserve breast implants and liposuction on my stomach, flank, and arms with Dr. Pittman and his team. I love the results! Nurse Caitlin was such a calming presence before and after the procedures and the recovery has been so smooth. The lymphatic massages with Alexa have been a great way to help speed up the lipo recovery. I highly recommend this practice to anyone interest in making a few tweaks to their appearance!
Dr. Pittman and his team are truly amazing! Complete professionals who guided me through the entire experience from initial inquiry, to consultation, to the procedure, and follow up. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone and everyone!
If you are debating on whether to try S+P MedSpa and surgical for any reason, let this be your sign to make the appointment! Quite literally everyone who works there is absolutely wonderful and accessible! Your experience starting from the front desk to your provider is one that was obviously designed with intention and compassion. I see Sara for Botox and Megan as my aesthetician and I cannot recommend either enough! Sara is an amazingly skilled injector, who values natural looking and sustainable results and patient education. From the consult to the injections and touch ups, I loved the whole process and my results. Megan is, not to be dramatic, the aesthetician of my dreams! She’s not only great at what she does but she also makes the space feel safe and relaxing. I came into our first facial pretty stressed and exhausted from outside issues and was nearly in tears with how cared for I felt and how gentle the whole experience was - she just knows what you need! Immediately after my products were absorbing so much better and I could already see a brighter and clearer complexion a few days later. The providers all work together to come up with a plan for achieving your skin goals. I can’t wait to go back for my IPL photofacial later this month. For anything outside of the MedSpa, I cannot echo this sentiment enough. I had a consult with Dr. Somenek about a procedure I was considering, and he and the surgical staff are so kind and want to make sure you are equipped with everything you need to make informed decisions. S+P appointments have truly become a source of joy and self care.

Dr. Michael Somenek performs the deep plane facelift by working beneath the SMAS layer, the sheet of muscle and connective tissue that supports the face. Rather than pulling the skin tight, this method lifts and repositions the deeper structures of the face as a single unit.
The deep plane technique begins with a sub-SMAS dissection. This means the surgeon works underneath the SMAS layer to release the ligaments that anchor facial tissue in place as we age.
