His clinical work centers on facial aesthetics, with the deep plane facelift among his areas of focus. This technique addresses deeper facial tissues rather than skin alone, a distinction that shapes both the natural look of results and the recovery experience.

Dr. Thomassen practices in Fort Lauderdale, a coastal South Florida city long associated with aesthetic medicine and a warm-weather recovery environment. His office is located at 2800 E. Commercial Blvd, Suite 103.

The deep plane facelift is a form of rhytidectomy (the medical term for a surgical facelift) that repositions the deeper support structures of the face. Dr. Thomassen approaches this procedure with an emphasis on natural-looking rejuvenation rather than an overly tightened appearance.

Across his career, Dr. Thomassen has offered a broad range of facial procedures. These include brow lift, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, neck lift, mini facelift, and facial fat grafting alongside the traditional and deep plane facelift.

His practice, Thomassen Plastic Surgery, also maintains an on-site surgical facility known as the Chrysalis Surgery Center. This allows procedures to be performed in a controlled, accredited setting.

Dr. Thomassen is described as a surgeon who explains procedures clearly and performs thorough examinations. This communication style matters for patients weighing an elective procedure like a facelift.

Facial aging affects multiple layers of tissue, including skin, fat, and the muscular SMAS (the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, a supportive layer beneath the skin). The deep plane approach that Dr. Thomassen focuses on works below this layer to reposition tissue.

Recovery from a deep plane facelift is a gradual process, and Dr. Thomassen's practice provides guidance for patients through each stage. Early swelling and bruising typically give way to more settled results over several months.

Beyond facial work, Dr. Thomassen's practice offers breast and body procedures, reflecting the comprehensive scope of a board-certified plastic surgeon. His facial focus, however, remains central to his deep plane facelift practice.

Dr. Thomassen serves both local South Florida patients and those traveling from elsewhere. His practice maintains resources for out-of-town patients, a common consideration for facelift candidates who travel for surgery.

Patients can follow Dr. Thomassen's work on Instagram at @drthomassenmd, where facial rejuvenation cases and practice updates are shared. His profile also appears on DeepPlane.com, a global directory of deep plane facelift surgeons.

Dr. John Michael Thomassen represents an established option for individuals researching facial rejuvenation in the Fort Lauderdale area. His combination of board certification, decades of practice, and dedicated facial focus positions him among the more experienced surgeons offering this procedure regionally.

For those beginning their research, understanding a surgeon's training, technique, and approach to recovery is essential. Dr. Thomassen's profile on DeepPlane.com is intended to support that early information-gathering stage for prospective deep plane facelift patients.

I can't even begin to say how thrilled I am with my results from Dr. John Michael Thomassen in Fort Lauderdale. At almost 55, I was tired of looking tired – droopy eyes, sagging jowls, the whole thing. So on January 13th, I went for the deep plane mini facelift with lateral brow lift plus upper lid blepharoplasty. Hands down, the best decision I've ever made. Dr. Thomassen is an absolute master. He truly listened, understood exactly what I wanted – a natural, refreshed version of myself – and he delivered beyond expectations. No pulled, frozen, or "done" look at all. Just softer, lifted contours, bright and alert eyes, and an overall appearance that makes me look genuinely rested and easily 12–15 years younger. Six weeks out, people keep stopping me to say how amazing I look. They can't pinpoint what changed; they just know I look incredible and vibrant again. What surprised me most was how accessible the pricing was – the total came in at a very reasonable money for everything (surgeon's fees, facility, anesthesia), which felt more than fair for the level of expertise, the beautiful results, and the top-tier care I received. In South Florida, where prices can get outrageous, this was genuinely a great value. The first day after surgery was definitely the toughest – those drainage tubes were uncomfortable and made moving around a bit challenging – but after that, recovery was surprisingly smooth and manageable. His entire team is outstanding: kind, professional, attentive, and always available for questions. The office runs like clockwork, follow-ups are thorough, and the personal care made all the difference. If you're in South Florida and considering facial rejuvenation, stop looking elsewhere. Go straight to Dr. Thomassen. This man is the real deal – skilled, honest, and truly transformative. I feel confident, happy, and excited to face the world every single day. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Dr. Thomassen – you changed my life for the better. Highly, highly recommend!

Dr. Thomassen's Surgical Approach

Dr. John Michael Thomassen approaches the deep plane facelift by working beneath the SMAS layer to reposition the deeper structures of the face.

Dr. John Michael Thomassen approaches the deep plane facelift by working beneath the SMAS layer to reposition the deeper structures of the face. The SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) is a network of muscle and connective tissue that sits between the skin and the deeper facial anatomy, and it plays a central role in how the face ages.

In a traditional facelift, the surgeon tightens the skin and often the SMAS as a separate step. The deep plane technique differs by releasing and lifting the SMAS and skin together as one unit, working in the plane beneath that layer.
