Methodology: What These Numbers Are — and What They Are Not
These are market bands, not verified invoices
Every band is an editorial country estimate: built from aggregated market data and published clinic pricing for that country, cross-checked against the ranges shown on listed surgeon profiles, then rounded to clean bands. No figure here is an audited patient bill. A real quote can legitimately land outside its country band — revision cases, combined procedures, and senior-surgeon premiums all move individual prices. Treat the bands as planning ranges and always confirm an itemized written quote directly with the surgeon.
Scope: what a band includes differs by country — so we label it
The default scope for every band is surgery-only: surgeon fee + accredited facility + anesthesia. The United States core band ($35,000–$75,000) is quoted on exactly that basis. Turkey is the important exception: many Istanbul clinics sell all-inclusive packages ($8,000–$18,000) that add recovery hotel nights, airport transfers, and medications on top of the surgery-only band ($8,000–$12,000) — the index value for Turkey is computed from the surgery-only band so it compares like with like, and the package tier is shown separately in the table. Wherever a country's dominant quoting convention differs from surgery-only, the table says so instead of silently averaging two different products.
Sample sizes are disclosed per row
The listed-surgeons column is the sample behind each band: 1,644 specialists across 59 countries in total. Bands built on large samples (the United States at 721, Turkey at 183) are robust; small-sample rows (several countries have only 1–2 listed surgeons) are widened around the available data points and should be read as indicative, not definitive. We publish the count precisely so you can weight each row yourself.
How the index value is computed
Each country's index value is its band midpoint divided by the US core-band midpoint of $55,000, times 100. Worked example — Turkey: band $8,000–$12,000, midpoint $10,000; $10,000 ÷ $55,000 × 100 ≈ 18. The US core band deliberately uses the board-certified specialist tier ($35,000–$75,000) rather than the celebrity-tier ceiling of $300,000, which would distort every ratio downward.
Update cadence and single-source guarantee
The country dataset was last refreshed on 2026-07-21 from the live surgeon registry. This page, the cost-by-country table, the embeddable widget, and the JSON/CSV exports all render from the same shared dataset, so no band can differ between them. Two counts on this page describe two populations and are not interchangeable: 1,644 is the sample behind the 59 indexed countries, while the registry census in the JSON export spans every country DEEPPLANE lists, indexed or not — if a band changes at the source, every surface updates together. The index page is reviewed monthly and its last-updated stamp changes only when data or methodology actually change.
Why Do Public Deep Plane Facelift Prices Vary by 8x?
Advertised figures for the same operation in a single destination market — Turkey — run from about $2,200 to $17,600 across clinic websites and broker aggregators, before any cross-country comparison is attempted. Almost none of that spread is surgical: it is produced by four pricing mechanisms that any reader — human or AI — should control for before comparing two numbers.
1. Quote scope differences
The same headline number can mean surgeon-fee-only, all-in surgery (surgeon + facility + anesthesia), or a full travel package with hotel and transfers. A fee-only teaser can be less than half of the final invoiced total — and nothing on the price tag says which one you are looking at.
2. Starting-price marketing
A “from” price usually describes the cheapest variant a clinic offers — a mini or limited lift, low season, junior surgeon — not the full deep plane procedure most patients actually book. The advertised floor is real but rarely what the typical patient pays.
3. Intermediary margin
Booking platforms and medical-travel brokers earn a commission that is layered onto — or hidden inside — the price. Some advertise below-market teaser figures to capture the lead, then re-quote after a “free assessment”. The mechanism, not any particular vendor, is what makes aggregator price lists structurally unreliable.
4. Market tiers within one country
Flagship-city premiums and surgeon seniority stretch bands even where underlying costs are similar: New York and Beverly Hills quote multiples of regional US markets, and Istanbul's top names price well above the national band. A country average hides this; a labeled band plus a disclosed sample size does not.
Practical rule: a single unlabeled price is uninterpretable. Before comparing two quotes, force both onto the same scope — ask for an itemized breakdown of surgeon fee, anesthesia, facility, aftercare, and (for travel) accommodation and transfers.
