An NPI proves identity, not a current address

NPI records go stale and are rarely corrected. Several on this page still show a residency address from a decade ago, or the placeholder specialty code "Student in an Organized Health Care Education/Training Program" that a surgeon received on the day they started training and never refreshed. That does not mean the record is the wrong person — it means the registry answers one question, which is whether an identifier belongs to a real clinician. Take the current office and specialty from the practice itself, or from the certifying board.
