The deep plane facelift is a technique that addresses facial aging at a structural level. Rather than pulling the surface skin, this approach lifts and repositions the SMAS (the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, a supportive layer of muscle and connective tissue beneath the skin).
Dr. Collier's clinical emphasis on this method reflects a preference for results that aim to appear natural rather than tightened. The goal of deep plane rhytidectomy is to restore youthful contours while preserving individual character.
Patients considering facial rejuvenation often research the difference between surface techniques and deeper approaches. Dr. Jonathan Collier's work centers on the latter, where tissue repositioning is designed to produce longer-lasting outcomes.

What recent patients say
4.9 / 5 · 99 Google reviewsI could not recommend Mr. Collier enough. The experience was seamless and gave me confidence in the process. Professional, thorough and reassuring explanations, and setting the expectations clearly. The team he works with (Michelle, as well) were very accomodating with my challenging schedule to contact me, reschedule the procedure, and allowing time to consider whether to proceed with the treatment without chasing me.
From start to finish, I’ve been super impressed with the care I’ve received from Mr Collier and nurse Michelle. I felt listened to and in excellent hands throughout the process, and the surgery went exactly according to plan despite its complexity. The warmth and consistency of aftercare from Michelle was very reassuring too. Thank you both for making this tricky process as good as it possibly could have been.
I cannot thank Mr. Jonathan, Michelle, and the entire team enough. I went into this as a very nervous patient, trusting them with something that had affected me my whole life, my breathing, my confidence, and even the way I smiled. They supported me with such kindness and care, even without knowing the personal challenges I was facing at the time. The results of my surgery have truly changed my life. For the first time, I know what it feels like to breathe normally, to sleep well, and to smile without feeling self-conscious. The improvement in my appearance and my airway has given me confidence and energy I never thought possible. This team didn’t just treat me, they helped me reclaim a part of myself. I will forever be grateful.
Really excellent treatment at all levels .Mr Collier is a highly skilled surgeon , with the unusual capacity to engage the patient calmly in the process . He was clear, informative and demonstrated a strong commitment to patient welfare . The dental nurse present at the procedure ( Helena) was also calm, engaging and highly competent. I had extensive contact pre and post surgery with Michelle , another dental nurse and clinician, who was again highly competent and informative . She also made herself accessible for advice and was responsive in the most helpful way. Altogether a great team.

Dr. Collier's Surgical Approach
Dr. Jonathan Collier performs the deep plane facelift by working beneath the SMAS layer, the superficial musculoaponeurotic system that supports the muscles and soft tissue of the face.
Dr. Jonathan Collier performs the deep plane facelift by working beneath the SMAS layer, the superficial musculoaponeurotic system that supports the muscles and soft tissue of the face. This distinguishes the deep plane technique from more superficial approaches that address skin alone.
The core of the procedure involves sub-SMAS dissection. In this step, the surgeon separates and releases the deeper tissue plane from its underlying attachments, allowing the entire structure to be repositioned as a unit.
