Last month, I was traveling with my family when my youngest daughter suddenly developed a stomachache one evening. Being in an unfamiliar place and unable to speak the language, we were at a loss. We were staying at a guesthouse and couldn't immediately contact the owner. Luckily, I had heard of a clinic down in the mountains beforehand. I contacted the clinic immediately, and thankfully, they offered multilingual services. After understanding my daughter's condition, they promptly sent someone to our guesthouse to examine her. Through an interpreter, we communicated with the doctor, and they quickly grasped my daughter's symptoms. The doctor had also prepared medication beforehand, and after my daughter took the medicine, her symptoms improved shortly afterward. After a half-day of rest the next day, she was completely recovered by the afternoon. It was a huge help! The doctor also issued a diagnosis certificate, which can be used to apply for insurance claims after returning home. For independent travelers abroad, it's truly better to be prepared for anything. I'm so grateful to the clinic down in the mountains for making our precious family trip a complete success.

The deep plane facelift represents one of the most advanced techniques in facial rejuvenation surgery, requiring precise understanding of facial anatomy and meticulous surgical skill. This sophisticated approach involves working beneath the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS layer), allowing for comprehensive repositioning of facial tissues to achieve natural, long-lasting results.

The SMAS layer, a fibromuscular structure that covers the deeper facial structures, serves as the key anatomical landmark in deep plane surgery. By releasing and repositioning this layer along with the overlying skin as a single unit, surgeons can achieve more dramatic and natural-looking results compared to traditional facelift techniques.

Recovery from a deep plane facelift typically involves 2-3 weeks of initial healing, with most visible bruising resolving within 7-10 days and sutures removed at days 7-10. International patients can generally travel home after 10-14 days once swelling has stabilised and wound checks are complete. Most patients return to desk work at 2-3 weeks and to exercise at 4-6 weeks. Final results become visible after 3-6 months as deep tissue swelling fully resolves. Dr. Atsushi Yamashita provides a personalised recovery timeline during consultation.

Deep plane facelift results typically last 10-15 years, significantly longer than traditional SMAS or mini-facelift procedures, which tend to last 5-8 years. The deep plane technique repositions deeper facial tissues — including the SMAS-platysma composite and the released retaining ligaments — rather than simply tightening skin, which produces more natural, longer-lasting rejuvenation. Longevity also depends on individual ageing biology, sun exposure, smoking status, and skincare. Dr. Atsushi Yamashita can discuss expected outcomes for your anatomy during consultation.
