Deep plane facelift surgery represents an advanced approach to facial rejuvenation that addresses aging at the sub-SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) layer. This technique allows for comprehensive repositioning of facial tissues rather than simple skin tightening, creating results that patients often describe as more natural-looking compared to traditional facelift methods.

The SMAS represents a fibromuscular layer that connects facial muscles to overlying skin. In deep plane technique, surgeons work beneath this layer to access facial retaining ligaments that, when released, allow for natural tissue repositioning without tension on the skin.

I had a couple of consultations with Dr. Colin McInnes for different procedures, as I’ve been feeling unhappy with some changes in my face over the past couple of years. What truly stood out to me was his honesty and integrity. Instead of recommending treatments that may not have been the right fit, he was very transparent and told me he wouldn’t do anything to my face. He reassured me that for my age, I look great. That level of honesty is rare, and I appreciated it so much. I think we can often be our own worst critics, and I left the consultations feeling so much better about myself. It meant a lot to be treated with such care and sincerity. Dr. McInnes clearly does beautiful work, which you can see on his Instagram, but what impressed me most was his integrity and professionalism. I highly recommend him.
I am not posting this to be malicious; this is just my honest experience with my Deep Plane SMAS Face/Neck/Brow lift with lipo and gland reduction by Dr. McInnes. I saw Dr. McInnes for a Deep Plane SMAS Face/Neck/Brow lift with lipo and gland reduction on March 4/2025. After consultations with 3 doctors, I decided on Dr. McInnes because he said he had had some mentoring from Dr. Nayak (the famous deep plane Necklift by by Nayak), this impressed me and I didn't expect a "Nayak Neck", but I expected close. Recovery was well tolerated, however the left gland had redness and swelling. I came in for a post op check in on May 28th (less that 3 months postop), at which time he informed me that I would benefit from a revision neck lift (to be paid out of my own pocket). This is because, in his words, "it is very expensive to get hospital time for him" (well no kidding- also very expensive to pay for it as a patient). He also looked at my face and told me "it looks better, but he wants me to look great". For ~$37,000 I would expect that the surgery be done right the first time and not require a revision for at least 10 years (as per what I was told at my initial consultation). I have obvious asymmetry of my left and right sides. Dr. McInnes recognizes this and maintains that I would benefit from a "revision neck lift". 9 months post op and he says I need a revision! One might assume this would be free of charge, but it is in fact not, with him stating "I don't guarantee results, I guarantee good intentions". If only we could all have a profession as such. Dr. McInnes did say that a cheaper alternative would be to get some more liposuction under my neck (which I already paid for and apparently performed during the initial surgery). However, it would need to come out of my pocket and citing "I charged another lady $500 for lipo under the neck using local anesthetic", then went on to tell me he would charge me $1000 and somehow upon leaving the appointment when I confirmed what it would cost it went up to $1500. Dr. McInnes also told me that I need to "adjust my expectations". He didn't tell me this before surgery, only after when discussing options to "fix" his initial surgery. Imagine charging someone $37k for a service that provides them with "good intentions". I am quite disappointed in the outcome and don't feel that this surgery was worth the cost.
I saw Dr McInnes for a consultation for a deep plane extended face and neck lift. I consulted with several surgeons and ultimately chose Dr McInnes for a number of reasons; the most notable being that I felt comfortable with him, he went over all the options very thoroughly, and I felt based on his work and extensive experience that I would be very happy with the results. Going over all the options I decided on neck contouring, deep plane extended face and neck lift and an upper blepharoplasty. The day of the surgery the entire team was amazing, and I can say the same of all my post op follow up visits. I think the biggest worry I had was that I wouldn’t look like myself…my reason for wanting surgery was that I felt like I wasn’t looking like myself anymore. I’m currently 10 weeks post op and absolutely thrilled!!! I feel like I have me back and the best part is nobody could ever tell I had surgery, and even people I know wouldn’t realize it. He exceeded my expectations on every level. I can say with absolute certainty that Dr McInnes will be my surgeon for life! I would recommend him to anybody. Thank you for everything…honestly life changing
