Dr. Karimi's Surgical Approach
The deep plane facelift technique employed by surgeons like MD Karimi involves repositioning the deeper facial tissues beneath the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) layer to achieve more natural and lasting results. This surgical approach differs significantly from traditional facelifts by releasing and repositioning the facial ligaments that tether the SMAS to deeper structures, allowing for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
During the procedure, the surgeon creates incisions along the hairline and around the ears, then carefully dissects beneath the SMAS layer to access the deep plane of the face where critical support structures reside. The sub-SMAS dissection extends to release the zygomatic and masseteric ligaments, enabling vertical repositioning of descended facial tissues without creating tension on the skin. This technique particularly benefits the midface region, where volume loss and descent create nasolabial folds and jowling that superficial procedures cannot adequately address. Tissue repositioning in the deep plane allows surgeons to restore youthful facial contours by elevating the malar fat pad and redistributing volume to areas depleted by aging. The platysma muscle in the neck is also addressed during deep plane surgery, with careful attention to creating a smooth cervicomental angle without visible banding or irregularities. MD Karimi's location in Los Angeles places him among practitioners who serve patients seeking results that appear refreshed rather than operated upon, a hallmark of properly executed deep plane techniques. The meticulous nature of deep plane dissection requires extensive anatomical knowledge and surgical precision, as the facial nerve branches run through this surgical plane. Recovery considerations differ from traditional facelifts due to the more extensive tissue manipulation, though the results typically last longer because the repair addresses the actual cause of facial aging rather than just its superficial manifestations.

Continuing medical education plays a crucial role in maintaining proficiency, with surgeons attending conferences, workshops, and cadaver labs to refine their techniques and learn emerging approaches. For patients researching credentials, verifying a surgeon's hospital privileges and any academic appointments can provide additional insight into their standing within the medical community.

According to 148 Google reviews, MD Karimi maintains a 4.8-star rating that places him slightly above the Los Angeles average of 4.7 stars for deep plane facelift surgeons. The available cached reviews reveal a pattern of patients praising communication and artistic vision, with one reviewer specifically noting the surgeon's integrity and willingness to thoroughly communicate throughout the process. Patient feedback spans both rhinoplasty and facial procedures, suggesting a practice focus on comprehensive facial aesthetics rather than a single procedure type. The presence of a one-star review mentioning post-operative complications highlights the importance of discussing potential risks and recovery expectations during consultation, as even experienced surgeons encounter challenging cases. Review language remains exclusively in English among the cached samples, though this may not represent the full patient demographic given Los Angeles's diverse population. The decade-long consideration period mentioned by one rhinoplasty patient suggests MD Karimi attracts patients who have extensively researched their options before committing to surgery. Emotional language in positive reviews, using words like incredible and exceptional, indicates strong patient satisfaction when outcomes meet expectations. The variation in review scores from one to five stars underscores the subjective nature of aesthetic surgery results and the importance of aligned expectations between surgeon and patient.

Deep plane facelift costs in Los Angeles reflect the city's position as a premium aesthetic surgery market, with pricing influenced by surgeon experience, facility fees, and comprehensive care packages. While specific pricing for MD Karimi remains undisclosed, Los Angeles deep plane facelifts typically range significantly based on the extent of surgery and additional procedures performed simultaneously. The city's high cost of living translates into elevated practice overhead, from Beverly Hills office space to specialized surgical staff, factors that inevitably influence surgical fees. Value considerations extend beyond the surgical fee to include anesthesia costs, facility charges, post-operative care, and potential revision policies that vary among practices. Los Angeles's concentration of aesthetic surgery practices creates pricing pressure in both directions, with some surgeons competing on cost while others position themselves as premium providers. When evaluated against purchasing power parity, Los Angeles ranks among the more expensive global destinations for facial surgery, though many patients justify the investment through access to experienced surgeons and advanced techniques. Hidden costs may include extended accommodation for out-of-town patients, multiple follow-up appointments, and specialized recovery supplies or treatments. Insurance rarely covers deep plane facelifts as they are considered elective cosmetic procedures, making financing options an important consideration for many patients. The long-lasting results of deep plane techniques, often extending 10-15 years, can make the per-year cost more reasonable when compared to temporary treatments requiring regular maintenance.

Deep plane facelift recovery with surgeons like MD Karimi follows a predictable timeline, with the first week requiring the most intensive care and activity restrictions. Patients typically experience peak swelling during days 3-5, with bruising extending beyond the surgical area into the neck and potentially the upper chest. Week two brings noticeable improvement as major swelling subsides, though residual puffiness persists, particularly in the morning hours. By weeks 3-4, most patients feel comfortable returning to non-strenuous work and social activities, using strategic styling and light makeup to camouflage any remaining bruising. The deep plane technique's extensive tissue manipulation may result in temporary numbness or tightness that gradually resolves over several months. Three-month follow-up appointments usually reveal significant settling of results, with final outcomes becoming apparent around the six-month mark. MD Karimi's Los Angeles location offers advantages for recovery support, including access to specialized lymphatic drainage therapists who can help reduce swelling more quickly. Scar maturation continues for up to one year, with incision lines becoming increasingly inconspicuous when properly cared for with sun protection and scar management protocols. He practices in a competitive market alongside eleven other deep plane facelift surgeons, offering aesthetic procedures to both local and traveling patients seeking facial enhancement.
From start to finish, my experience with Dr. Karimi was incredible. I’d been wanting a rhinoplasty for over a decade, and with my wedding less than a year away, it finally felt like the right time. I had originally found him years ago through an influencer (not sponsored), and after looking into other surgeons, he really stood out – super knowledgeable and professional, while still being warm and approachable. I ended up having a rhinoplasty, septoplasty, and turbinoplasty. I knew I had a deviated septum but had no idea how much my breathing would improve. I’m almost 3 months post-op and breathing better than I ever have. My healing has also been surprisingly quick, and overall my recovery felt really seamless – I barely had any pain. On surgery day, I was of course nervous, but the staff was phenomenal and made me feel really comfortable. At all of my post-op appointments, the care has been just as consistent. Another thing I really respect is that Dr. Karimi is honest and doesn’t push unnecessary procedures. I’ve asked about other treatments during my “wedding glow-up” phase, and he’s always kept his recommendations thoughtful and minimal. Overall, I can’t recommend Dr. Karimi and his team enough. The entire experience was absolutely worth it!
Dr. Karimi and his team are absolutely exceptional. His talent, integrity, kindness, and willingness to truly communicate set him apart in every way. I came to Dr. Karimi with a very serious nasal valve collapse. I had struggled to breathe through my nose for the past couple of years and was waking close to 100 times a night because of it. I knew I needed a highly skilled surgeon, and after extensive research, I felt confident that Dr. Karimi was the most qualified to handle what ultimately proved to be an extremely complex surgery that few surgeons could have performed successfully. At the same time, I had undergone a facelift about 14 months earlier that left me with some issues under my jaw and noticeable hollowness around my eyes. Dr. Karimi thoughtfully discussed all available options with me. Together, we created a comprehensive plan: reconstruct the inside of my nose, performed a revision submentoplasty, and add fat grafting and nanofat around my eyes, neck, and face to restore balance and softness. Before surgery, I was in regular contact with his nurse, Micaela, who is warm, calm, highly competent, and incredibly responsive. During my pre-surgical appointment, I came in with many questions, and Dr. Karimi was fully present. He addressed each concern thoroughly and patiently, which gave me tremendous confidence and peace of mind. The most shocking moment came immediately after surgery. Despite the discomfort that comes with such a complex procedure, I woke up and could breathe. It was almost surreal. After years of struggling, the difference was instant. While recovery has not been easy - as expected with a surgery of this magnitude- I have never once doubted that I chose the right surgeon. Now six weeks out, I am breathing better every single day. There is still swelling, but Dr. Karimi showed me a video taken immediately after surgery so I could see the intended shape before swelling set in. Even now, while healing, everything looks natural and very presentable, and it continues to improve daily. The area under my chin remains somewhat swollen but is already significantly smoother and better than before. The fat grafting under my eyes corrected the hollowness beautifully and subtly - I look refreshed, not altered. The results feel harmonious and thoughtful. What stands out just as much as his surgical ability is Dr. Karimi’s level of care. He treats his patients with seriousness and compassion, understanding how emotional and vulnerable these decisions can be. His collaborative approach makes you feel heard and supported throughout the entire process. I truly wish I had chosen him for my original facial surgery. His combination of technical brilliance and genuine humanity is rare. I have already recommended him to friends with complicated nasal issues, and I would confidently recommend him for facial surgery as well. To be in the hands of a surgeon this talented - who genuinely cares and takes his work so seriously - is a gift. I am incredibly grateful, and I know my quality of life and athletic ability will continue to improve now that I can finally breathe again.
I would not recommend Dr Karimi. Ever since day one of the nose surgery it’s been a living nightmare. I wasn’t able to sleep for 3 weeks after the operation. My life has been miserable since the operation. Went to the ER a bunch of times. Now it’s over 2 months post nose operation and both of my nostrils are clogged when I go to sleep. I wake up after an hour of sleep. I feel like Im suffocating and it’s a slow death. My life is ruined because of this operation. I regret ever doing it in the first place.
