She has discussed her surgeries openly on social media and in interviews, including a widely-publicized appearance in 2021 that raised questions about her recovery. • Confirmed: 3 Facelifts (2025 (3rd))
  • Estimated cost: $25,000 - $60,000
  • Country: USA

Kathy Griffin admitted in 2025 to having her third facelift, candidly stating "the vanity took over." The comedian has been open about her cosmetic procedures throughout her career, using humor to normalize the conversation around plastic surgery. Her latest facelift came after years of publicly discussing aging in Hollywood and the pressures faced by women in entertainment.

Griffin's first facelift is believed to have taken place in the early 2010s, when she was in her early 50s. At that time, she spoke candidly on her talk show about wanting to maintain a youthful appearance in an industry that is notoriously unkind to aging women. Her second facelift followed several years later, reportedly addressing areas that had begun to show signs of aging again. Both procedures were performed by board-certified plastic surgeons in Los Angeles.

What makes Griffin's case notable from a medical perspective is the relatively smooth results across three separate facelift procedures. Repeated facelifts carry additional risks, including scar tissue buildup, nerve damage, and diminished skin elasticity[1]. Griffin's results suggest she worked with skilled surgeons who understood the importance of conservative tissue manipulation and proper healing intervals between procedures[2].

Griffin has also been vocal about her broader health journey, including her battle with lung cancer in 2021 and subsequent vocal cord surgery. Her willingness to discuss both medical and cosmetic procedures has made her one of the most transparent celebrities when it comes to personal health decisions. She frequently uses social media to share updates and has encouraged her fans to make informed choices about cosmetic surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many facelifts has Kathy Griffin had?
Kathy Griffin has publicly confirmed having three facelifts, with the most recent one performed in 2025. She has been unusually candid in interviews and on social media, stating at one point that 'the vanity took over' — framing the choice as a pragmatic response to the visual demands of staying on camera in late career. Between procedures she has discussed her thinking, recovery, and trade-offs openly, making her a transparent celebrity reference for multiple-procedure planning.
Why did Kathy Griffin get a third facelift?
Griffin has spoken about the cumulative pressures of being constantly on camera, where HD video and 4K streaming make even small aging changes highly visible. She chose a third facelift to refresh her appearance years after her prior lift, to maintain confidence in on-camera performance work, and — by her own account — to offset softening of the jawline and neck that fillers could not fully address.
What other procedures has Kathy Griffin had?
In addition to three facelifts, Griffin has discussed having botulinum-toxin injections (Botulinum toxin), hyaluronic-acid dermal fillers, laser resurfacing, and other non-surgical aesthetic treatments over two decades. She approaches cosmetic procedures with her signature humor and public transparency, discussing outcomes both positive and negative in stand-up, interviews, and social media. Her openness makes her a reference point for patients considering a multi-modal aesthetic plan.
Is it safe to have three facelifts?
Having multiple facelifts is technically possible and is performed routinely on carefully selected patients, but each subsequent procedure carries progressively higher risks than the one before — including scar-tissue buildup that distorts tissue planes, higher nerve-injury rates, reduced skin elasticity that limits re-draping, and more suboptimal scar healing. Surgeons generally favor a conservative approach that preserves tissue for future revisions.
How much did Kathy Griffin's facelifts cost in total?
Exact figures have not been publicly disclosed, but the estimated combined cost of Griffin's three confirmed facelifts is roughly $60,000 to $120,000 based on prevailing Los Angeles rates across the three procedure dates. The total includes surgeon fees, anesthesia, accredited facility costs, pre-op labs, and post-op follow-up for each procedure — at top-tier LA clinics where deep plane specialists charge $35,000–$50,000 per primary case and more for revisions.

The DEEPPLANE™ Review Council is the name under which DEEPPLANE™ publishes its editorial standard; it is not a standing board of named surgeons. Our guides are written and edited in-house to that standard. Review is recorded per article, not claimed for the site as a whole — a guide names a surgeon as its reviewer only when that surgeon has signed it, and says so plainly when none has.
